Dew is a map

Your city

You can use the Dew map anywhere in the world, but especially in your own backyard. Think of a map of your homeplace as a clean slate, waiting for you to add your voice.

Your block

Zoom in to the level of your own street. This is the playing field. You pass through here every day. What happens there? What do you think should happen there?

You

Dew is a map about you. It works because the Dew map connects you to the places you know the best. The same goes for your mom, and your boyfriend, and your sister, and the old man next door.

Dew gathers ideas

For change

We want to make it possible for anybody to envision and implement change in their community. Dew lets anybody to locate their ideas and interests on a map, and make it visible to others.

For projects

Good ideas become real projects that Dew helps grow by creating buzz, building stakeholders, and establishing a base of supporters.

For the future

As a shared map, Dew shows how your neighbors envision the future too. When those ideas are tapped, Dew builds movements to transform communities one shovel, one hammer at a time.

Dew catalyzes action

Through crowdsourcing

Online ideation helps good ideas grow and get better, and Dew uses an pinboard associated with each idea to gather content from anywhere. Let the crowd help steer your vision in the right direction.

Through collaboration

Dew helps convert all those good ideas to offline action, by gathering people to implement project in the real world. Collaboration makes change real, and Dew connects people who have something to contribute.

Through stewardship

Show pride in your homeplace by speaking up about its future. Dew empowers anybody to have a meaningful and action-oriented voice in the development of thier communities.

About Dew

Founded in Detroit

Dew grew over beers in Detroit in the shadow of the big crash. Our work began while talking about ways everyday folks can have a voice in community development decisions. Detroit is in our roots. Our initiating values are informed by the ongoing life of this amazing American city.

Why we made Dew

Our goal is really simple: to create a way for all people to envision and implement change in their neighborhoods. Plus, we're very interseted in maps. Dew is at the intersection of our shared background as designers, architects, urbanists, and explorers of the world around us.

Our interests

Well, maps obviously, but also a lot more. We're fascinated by emerging projects that connect online ideation and crowdsourcing to offline action. Dew is one of many similar projects working to create place-based change through collective voices. We're interested in the future of our cities and rural places. Other things too... music, whatever, table tennis, snow, blah...

Dew Collaborators

Derek Roberts
Head Biz

Derek manages Dew as a breathing corporation. Derek's work for Dew is a confluence of his diverse academic and professional work in architecture, planning, urban design, strategy and real estate development. Many of Derek's greatest ideas have happened while enjoying fine bourbon with friends and colleagues.

Emma Bernsohn
Head Viz

Emma covers marketing, branding, identity and anything visual, but also so much more. See, all of those things are at the intersection of strategy and operations, so Emma's a connector and frankly keeps Patrick and Derek level-headed. Emma comes to us from Tomorrow Partners, where she was a designer and strategist. She's a CCA-er, and spent a big chunk of the summer on a hazelnut farm in Oregon. Quelle vie!

Patrick Jones
Head Ops

Patrick is our head strategist and product manager and works to make sure Dew gels. His supplemental role is as Dew's resident UX/UI czar. While interface design is a big interest, Patrick is also an architectural designer in New Orleans. A graduate of Harvard and Michigan, he's worked as a ski bum, legislative assistant, and construction manager.
